Pair of Robins

Description

Liam Butler’s signature robin is a much loved piece which looks right at home perched on a mantlepiece, desk or windowsill. Liam has a great love of birds and the robins has been a feature of his work for many years. He enjoys portraying his robins perched in nature and interacting with each other or the world outside. The robins holds many meanings and Liam enjoys hearing about what the piece represents to different people. The robin has been known to symbolise hope, a loved one keeping a watchful eye, and new beginnings.

The robin is created through a process of heating, hammering, and welding recycled copper pipes to reach the desired shape. The body of the robin is treated with a blue patina and the breast is heated and shined to bring out the natural warm orange and red tones of the metal. The base is grinded slightly to create a flat surface, meaning the robin can be placed anywhere without the need for a base.
